The activities may not be limited to providing nine-month off school "Bridge Courses" (preparatory classes and school enrolment support) to girls and boys who have never enrolled to attend secondary school education or who dropped out in Form 1 to 3 and learning support classes to low performing students to help keep them in school; providing training in life skills, covering health, hygiene, reproductive health, pregnancy and marriage, sexual abuse and negotiation skills through formation of clubs; awareness-raising activities, involving workshops with leaders, radio and theatre campaigns, and collaboration with head teachers and teachers; mentorship of parents through male and female ‘adult champions’ from the local community facilitates negotiations with parents, adding credibility to the scheme and establishing gender-friendly school environments in schools; developing local language audio-visual resources and supplementary readers for use in schools; supporting extra-curricular clubs e.g. inter school debate, drama, arts, female learners forums, Girls Clubs reading clubs); providing sanitary pads and upgrading sanitation facilities; support HIV/AIDS Circles; providing tutorial classes for students ‘at risk’ of failure or dropping out; training teachers, school directors, PTA members, Education Advisory Committee and members and School Improvement Committee members in gender mainstreaming; and developing a school management simulation games to explore the challenges and benefits of students’ education. Lessons from the project will be shared through study tours, girls’ education newsletters, education conferences and regional and national dissemination events.
This program is aimed at achieving primary prevention of HIV infection through activities such as expanding confidential counselling and testing programs linked with evidence based behavioral change and building programs to reduce mother-to-child transmission; Improving the care and treatment of HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and related opportunistic infections by improving STI management; enhancing laboratory diagnostic capacity and the care and treatment of opportunistic infections; interventions for intercurrent diseases impacting HIV infected patients including tuberculosis (TB); and initiating programs to provide anti-retroviral therapy (ART); Strengthening the capacity of health actors within Kenya to collect and use surveillance data and manage national HIV/AIDS programs by expanding HIV/STI/TB surveillance programs and strengthening laboratory support for surveillance, diagnosis, treatment, disease monitoring and HIV screening for blood safety; and Developing, validating and/or evaluating public health programs to inform, improve and target appropriate interventions, as related to the prevention, care and treatment of HIV/AIDS, TB and opportunistic infections.

Since PRISM has been cooperating with the RHD in Kenya -in capacity building projects and non-formal learning experiences including youth exchanges, trainings, networking activities, internships and study visits engaging social workers, youth leaders and educators.
